About
In response to Philistine aggression, Israel transitioned from a loose confederation of tribes to a nation with a king. Saul, the first king, was succeeded by David who expanded Israel’s borders and made Jerusalem the capital. Solomon succeeded David and completed the Jerusalem temple. The monarchy split into two kingdoms, with the Kingdom of Israel to the north and the Kingdom of Judah to the south, following Solomon’s death.
