Annas

High priest who was the father-in-law of Caiphas.

Annas had been the Jewish high priest before he was succeeded by Caiaphas, his son-in-law. According to the Gospel according to John, Jesus was taken before Annas as soon as he was arrested (John 18:13). In Acts 4:5-6, Annas is among those who interrogate Peter and John.
