ANALYSIS
Hosea calls the people to repent and to know the Lord–“Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord” (6:3). The people had turned away from God and proper knowledge of God. Hosea calls them back. He borrows language from the people’s worship of false fertility gods–“revive us” and “raise us up” are borrowed from the worship of Baal–to call the people back to the true God, who alone can keep promises and who alone can revive the people.
