Elisha takes up the mantle of Elijah and continues his ministry with numerous demonstrations of the effectiveness of the prophetic word in every aspect of life, including dealing with poverty (2 Kings 4:1-7), feeding the hungry (4:38-44; 6:24-7:20), healing an enemy general (5:1-27), floating an ax head (6:1-7), providing military victory (6:8-23), restoring a widow’s property (8:1-6), and even raising a dead child (4:8-37).
