The story of Zacchaeus, a wealthy tax collector, appears in Luke 19:1-10. As Jesus passes through Jericho, Zacchaeus must climb a tree to see him. Jesus spies him, calls him down, and announces that he will go to Zacchaeus’s house. Zacchaeus pledges to give half his possessions to the poor and to restore fourfold to anyone whom he has cheated.
