Persian leader who allowed Jewish exiles to return home.

Cyrus became king of Persia in 555 BCE and later conquered Babylon. In 538 BCE, he issued an edict allowing the Jews exiled in Babylon to return to Jerusalem and to rebuild the city and its temple.
