Proverbs 30:1-6 – Lament and Exhortation

Proverbs 30:1-6

SUMMARY

Lack of wisdom is deeply problematic, though it leads to questions which can point us to God.

ANALYSIS

Proverbs 30:1-6 are a remarkable way to begin a chapter of Proverbs. These are the words of Agur, an unknown person.  They read like a proverbial lament over the lack of wisdom.  Joined to the lament are three questions in verse 4 which point the reader to God and perhaps point the Christian to Jesus. And then the lament turns to proclamation: “Every word of God proves true…”
