Hebrews 13:8 – The Faithfulness of Jesus Christ

BIBLE TEXT

Hebrews 13:8

SUMMARY

The book of Hebrews declares that Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday and today and forever.”

ANALYSIS

To say that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever points to his constant faithfulness. It is important to recognize that Hebrews has a view of Christ that is dynamic rather than static. The book notes many different moments in Jesus’ career. He is the preexistent Son of God, through whom God created all things (Hebrews 1:1-4), yet he became human and experienced testing, suffering, and death on earth (Hebrews 5:8-10; 10:5-7). Afterward, he was exalted to heavenly glory where he intercedes for people (Hebrews 9:24). Therefore, to say that Jesus Christ remains the same means that he remains constant in his commitment to doing the will of God for the salvation of others. Christ is constant in his faithfulness through many changing situations.
