Deuteronomy 10:14-19 – Orphan, Widow, and Foreigner

BIBLE TEXT

Deuteronomy 10:14-19

SUMMARY

God owns all that is, and God focuses attention on the widow, orphan, and foreigner. Since God has chosen the Israelites, they, too, should show special care for the widow, orphan, and foreigner.

ANALYSIS

In the Pentateuch, history, prophets, writings and New Testament, special emphasis is placed on providing for those who, because of structural difficulties and cultural inequities, have a more difficult time providing for themselves. Deuteronomy is in profound accord with the rest of Scripture in asserting that the Israelites should practice extra care for widows, orphans, and foreigners, because God does the same.
