SUMMARY
These lists from NehemiahThe governor of Jerusalem who rebuilt the city walls after the exile. More 11:3-24 situate the Chronicler’s postexilic community as the continuation of the history just presented in chapters 1-8.
ANALYSIS
The Chronicler’s long genealogical introduction concludes with a list similar to that found in Nehemiah 11:3-24. There, as here, this list is related to the repopulation of Jerusalem as it details the return of the exiles from Babylon to their former territories in the land of Israel. In the Chronicler’s context, however, it serves the further purpose of providing the crucial link between the Chronicler’s postexilic Israel and their past.
