SUMMARY
These lists from NehemiahThe governor of Jerusalem who rebuilt the city walls after the exile. 11:3-24 help the Chronicler’s postexilic community see their place in the history just presented in chapters 1-8.
ANALYSIS
The Chronicler’s long genealogical introduction concludes with a list similar to that found in Nehemiah 11:3-24. There, as here, this list is related to the repopulation of Jerusalem as it details the return of the Babylonian exiles to their former territories. In the Chronicler’s context, however, it serves the further purpose of providing the crucial link between the Chronicler’s community and their past.
