Thomas, also called the Twin (Didymus in Greek), was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples. Several days after Jesus’ death, Thomas refused to believe that Jesus had risen, insisting that he have proof. A week later the risen Jesus appeared and showed Thomas the wounds in his hands and side, evoking Thomas’s confession of faith, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:24-29).
