Judas Iscariot

One of Jesus' disciples, who betrayed him for 30 pieces of silver.

Judas was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples and responsible for the funds for Jesus’ followers (John 12:6). When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem at the end of his ministry, Judas went to the chief priests and offered to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. He led a crowd to Gethsemane and identified Jesus with a kiss, thereby delivering Jesus into their hands. The New Testament includes two different stories about his death. In Matthew 27:3-10, Judas regrets his betrayal, throws the pieces of silver down in the temple, and hangs himself. In Acts 1:16-20, Judas acquires a field with his blood money, falls in that field, and dies when his body bursts open.
