Jethro

Jethro — who is also referred to as Reuel in Exodus 2:18 — is the father-in-law of Moses and father of Moses’s wife, Zipporah. He is a Midianite priest, who Moses meets after fleeing Egypt (Exodus 2:11-22). After Moses leads the Israelites out of Egypt, Jethro meets him in the wilderness, offering praise to the God of Israel and counsel to Moses (Exodus 18). Moses agrees to Jethro’s suggestion to delegate authority to other Israelites, so that they may resolve minor issues and disputes on their own.
