Gad was born to Jacob by Zilpah who was Leah’s servant. Gad was the ancestor of the tribe of Israel which bears his name. Along with Reuben and the half tribe of Manasseh, Gad settled in the area east of the Jordan River between the Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee.
