About Your Instructor
Daniel Simundson
Daniel J. Simundson, professor emeritus of Old Testament, earned the B.A. degree in 1955 from Stanford University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and the B.D. degree from Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1959. He received the Ph.D. degree in 1971 from Harvard University, where he was awarded the Graduate Prize Fellowship. Ordained in 1959, he was pastor of Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon, Ill., until 1961, when he became hospital chaplain at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis (1961-67). He also served a several interim and vice pastorates from 1963 through 1971. He became a member of the faculty at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1972 and was named professor of Old Testament in 1981. He served as dean of students in 1974-75, and dean of academic affairs in 1976-78; 1988-93 and 1995-96. He retired in 2003.
