Jehoshaphat

Jehoshaphat was the fourth king of Judah (succeeding his father, King Asa) and ruled over Jerusalem for 25 years (2 Chronicles 20:31). His reign is described in 1 Kings 22 and with more detail in 2 Chronicles 17-21. Jehoshaphat has a mixed legacy: he is commended for removing the high places and sacred poles from Judah (2 Chronicles 17:6) and for making other reforms in order to bring his people back to the Lord. However, Jehoshaphat sought an alliance with the wicked king of Israel, Ahab — and as a result, fought in a battle against Ramoth-gilead where Ahab was killed (2 Chronicles 18) — that led to a rebuke from the Lord (2 Chronicles 19:2). Also while under Jehoshaphat’s rule, Judah faced an invasion from the East from several nations, but God intervened and ensured Judah’s victory (2 Chronicles 20:1-30).
