SUMMARY
Here are a number of proverbs that contain a plentitude of similitudes.
ANALYSIS
Proverbs 25-26 (more Proverbs of SolomonThird king of Israel who was known for wisdom and building the first Temple. More) boast an abundance of similitudes which invite the reader to consider how one thing is like another. (See “Similes/ Similitudes” entry in Introductory Issues in Proverbs).Â
They are rather like riddles: How is a fitly spoken word like jewelry? How is a gift not given like clouds without rain? How is singing a cheery song to one in pain like vinegar on a wound? How is good news from afar like water to one who thirsts? How is a fool who reverts to his folly like a dog who returns to his vomit? How is someone who meddles like one who takes a passing dog by its ears?
