This brief chapter may narrate the same event as narrated in HoseaProphet to the northern kingdom who married a prostitute to show God's relationship to a faithless Israel. More 1 or could be a separate incident. A few readers have suggested that a woman other than Gomer is intended here, but most see the chapter as dealing with Hosea and Gomer.
