Youth, Young Adults & the Bible

Salient themes and questions for younger generations

Does Gen Z have faith? And what does the Bible have to do with that faith?

Based on their survey of 30K young people aged 13-25, Springtide Research Institute describes Gen Z as “unbundling” their spiritual beliefs and practices from institutional sources of faith, including the church and the Bible. “Practically speaking, this means that Gen Z is comfortable placing a religious text next to a political manifesto.” Consequently, ways of exploring the biblical witness that take young people’s questions and critiques seriously may be the best way forward.

The resources collected below will not definitively reconcile the Bible with our current experience—that’s a complicated process. But they will offer examples of faithful responses. This openness and engagement are how we can bear witness to our sacred text with this generation.
